“And your Lord says: ‘Call upon Me; I will respond to you.’” — Qur'an 40:60
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Duʿāʾ is worship.”(Sunan al-Tirmidhī — authentic)
Introduction
A Muslim may make duʿāʾ at any time, in any language, asking Allah for anything lawful and good. However, the greatest supplications are those taught by Allah in the Qur'an and by His Messenger Muhammad ﷺ, for they are the most complete and comprehensive.
Etiquette of Duʿāʾ
Begin by praising Allah.
Send blessings upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Face the Qiblah if possible.
Raise your hands (except where the Sunnah indicates otherwise).
Have certainty that Allah will answer.
Repeat the duʿāʾ three times if appropriate.
Do not be impatient.
Ask with humility and sincerity.
Eat and earn from ḥalāl sources.
End with blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ.
Best Times for Duʿāʾ
✦During the last third of the night.
✦While fasting.
✦At the time of breaking the fast.
✦Between the adhān and iqāmah.
✦During sujūd (prostration).
✦Before saying salām in prayer.
✦On Friday, especially the last hour before Maghrib.
Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammad, wa ʿalā āli Muḥammad, kamā ṣallayta ʿalā Ibrāhīm, wa ʿalā āli Ibrāhīm, innaka Ḥamīdun Majīd. Allāhumma bārik ʿalā Muḥammad, wa ʿalā āli Muḥammad, kamā bārakta ʿalā Ibrāhīm, wa ʿalā āli Ibrāhīm, innaka Ḥamīdun Majīd.
O Allah, bestow Your blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.
Allāhumma innī as'aluka min khayri mā sa'alaka minhu nabiyyuka Muḥammad ﷺ, wa aʿūdhu bika min sharri mā istaʿādha minhu nabiyyuka Muḥammad ﷺ.
O Allah, I ask You for all the good that Your Prophet Muhammad ﷺ asked You for, and I seek refuge in You from all the evil from which Your Prophet Muhammad ﷺ sought refuge.
O Allah, You are my Lord. There is no god except You. You created me and I am Your servant. I remain faithful to Your covenant and promise as much as I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your favors upon me, and I acknowledge my sins. So forgive me, for none forgives sins except You.
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and grief, from weakness and laziness, from miserliness and cowardice, and from being overcome by debt and by people.

Duʿāʾ · 008Qur'an 21:87. The Prophet ﷺ said no Muslim supplicates with it except that Allah answers him (Sunan al-Tirmidhī).

1) O Allah, make what is lawful sufficient for me in place of what is unlawful, and enrich me by Your bounty in place of anyone besides You.
2) My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need.
3) O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provision, and deeds that are accepted.
4) O Allah, our Lord, send down to us a table from the heaven to be for us a festival for the first of us and the last of us and a sign from You. And provide for us, for You are the best of providers.
5) O Allah, increase his wealth and children, and bless him in what You have given him.
6) O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty and Your mercy, for none possesses it but You.
7) And whoever is conscious of Allah — He will make for him a way out, and will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allah — He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a measure.

Allāhumma innī as'alukal-ʿafwa wal-ʿāfiyah fid-dunyā wal-ākhirah. Allāhumma innī as'alukal-ʿafwa wal-ʿāfiyah fī dīnī wa dunyāya wa ahlī wa mālī.
O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religion, my worldly life, my family, and my wealth.
Raḍītu billāhi Rabbā, wa bil-islāmi dīnā, wa bi-Muḥammadin ﷺ nabiyyā.
I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, with Islam as my religion, and with Muhammad ﷺ as my Prophet. (Whoever says this three times in the morning and evening, Allah has promised to please them on the Day of Resurrection.)

Allāhumma iyyāka naʿbudu, wa laka nuṣallī, wa nasjudu, wa ilayka nasʿā wa naḥfidu, wa narjū raḥmatak, wa nakhshā ʿadhābak, inna ʿadhābaka bil-kuffāri mulḥaq.
1) O Allah, guide me among those You have guided, pardon me among those You have pardoned, turn to me in friendship among those on whom You have turned in friendship, and bless me in what You have bestowed, and protect me from the evil of what You have decreed. Verily You decree and none can decree over You; he is not humiliated whom You befriend. Blessed are You, our Lord, and Exalted.
2) Glory be to the Sovereign, the Most Holy.
3) O Allah! We invoke You for help, and beg for forgiveness, and we believe in You and have trust in You, and we praise You in the best way we can; and we thank You and we are not ungrateful to You, and we forsake and turn away from the one who disobeys You. O Allah! We worship You and prostrate ourselves before You, and we hasten towards You and serve You, and we hope to receive Your mercy and we dread Your torment. Surely, the disbelievers shall incur Your torment.

When Something You Dislike Happens
قَدَّرَ اللَّهُ وَمَا شَاءَ فَعَلَ
Qaddarallāhu wa mā shā'a faʿal.
Allah has decreed, and what He willed, He does. (The Prophet ﷺ preferred this over saying 'if only…')
Allāhumma innī as'aluka qalban salīmā, wa lisānan ṣādiqā, wa as'aluka min khayri mā taʿlam, wa aʿūdhu bika min sharri mā taʿlam, wa astaghfiruka limā taʿlam.
O Allah, I ask You for a sound heart and a truthful tongue. I ask You for the good of what You know, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You know, and I seek Your forgiveness for what You know.
Allāhumma innī as'alukal-jannata wa mā qarraba ilayhā min qawlin aw ʿamal, wa aʿūdhu bika minan-nāri wa mā qarraba ilayhā min qawlin aw ʿamal.
O Allah, I ask You for Paradise and whatever word or deed brings me closer to it, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire and whatever word or deed brings me closer to it.
1) O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, by Your mercy I seek relief.
2) Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.
3) There is no god except You. Glory be to You. Indeed, I have been among the wrongdoers.

1) Rabbij ʿalnī muqīmaṣ-ṣalāti wa min dhurriyyatī, Rabbanā wa taqabbal duʿā'. Rabbanaghfir lī wa liwālidayya wa lil-mu'minīna yawma yaqūmul-ḥisāb.
2) Rabbanā taqabbal minnā innaka antas-samīʿul-ʿalīm.
3) Rabbanā waj ʿalnā muslimayni laka wa min dhurriyyatinā ummatan muslimatan laka, wa arinā manāsikanā wa tub ʿalaynā innaka antat-Tawwābur-Raḥīm.
1) My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [many] from my descendants. Our Lord, accept my supplication. Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers on the Day the account is established.
2) Our Lord, accept this from us. Indeed You are the Hearing, the Knowing.
3) Our Lord, make us Muslims in submission to You and from our descendants a Muslim nation in submission to You. Show us our rites and turn to us in mercy. Indeed, You are the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful.

Duʿāʾ · 044Qur'an 28:16
Mūsā ﷺ — Seeking Forgiveness
رَبِّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي
Rabbi innī ẓalamtu nafsī fa-ghfir lī.
My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me.
Rabbi awziʿnī an ashkura niʿmatakal-latī anʿamta ʿalayya wa ʿalā wālidayya wa an aʿmala ṣāliḥan tarḍāhu wa adkhilnī bi-raḥmatika fī ʿibādikaṣ-ṣāliḥīn.
My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and to do righteousness of which You approve, and admit me by Your mercy into [the ranks of] Your righteous servants.
1) Rabbanā lā tuzigh qulūbanā baʿda idh hadaytanā wa hab lanā min ladunka raḥmah, innaka antal-Wahhāb.
2) Rabbanā innanā āmannā fa-ghfir lanā dhunūbanā wa qinā ʿadhāban-nār.
3) Rabbanā afrigh ʿalaynā ṣabran wa thabbit aqdāmanā wa-nṣurnā ʿalal-qawmil-kāfirīn.
1) Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from Yourself. Indeed, You are the Bestower.
2) Our Lord, indeed we have believed, so forgive us our sins and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
3) Our Lord, pour upon us patience and make firm our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people.

Duʿāʾ · 052Qur'an 2:286. The Prophet ﷺ said Allah answered 'yes' to each of these requests (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim).
Rabbanā lā tu'ākhidhnā in nasīnā aw akhṭa'nā. Rabbanā wa lā taḥmil ʿalaynā iṣran kamā ḥamaltahu ʿalal-ladhīna min qablinā. Rabbanā wa lā tuḥammilnā mā lā ṭāqata lanā bih. Wa-ʿfu ʿannā wa-ghfir lanā wa-rḥamnā anta Mawlānā fa-nṣurnā ʿalal-qawmil-kāfirīn.
Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we forget or err. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.
Allāhumma aslamtu nafsī ilayk, wa fawwaḍtu amrī ilayk, wa wajjahtu wajhī ilayk, wa alja'tu ẓahrī ilayk, raghbatan wa rahbatan ilayk, lā malja'a wa lā manjā minka illā ilayk, āmantu bi-kitābikal-ladhī anzalta wa bi-nabiyyikal-ladhī arsalt.
O Allah, I submit myself to You, entrust my affair to You, turn my face to You, and lay myself down depending upon You, in hope and fear of You. There is no refuge and no escape except to You. I believe in Your Book which You revealed and Your Prophet whom You sent. (If one dies that night, they die upon the natural belief, al-fiṭrah.)

Duʿāʾ · 060Sunan Abī Dāwūd, al-Tirmidhī (ḥasan) — the Prophet ﷺ taught this for protection, including to children.
Aʿūdhu bi-kalimātillāhit-tāmmati min ghaḍabihi wa ʿiqābih, wa sharri ʿibādih, wa min hamazātish-shayāṭīni wa an yaḥḍurūn.
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and punishment, from the evil of His servants, and from the whispers of devils and their presence.

Words for the ordinary movements of the day — dressing, leaving, returning — each one turned into an act of worship.
﴿Leaving﴾ Bismillāhi, tawakkaltu ʿalallāh, wa lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh.
﴿Entering﴾ Allāhumma innī as'aluka khayral-mawliji wa khayral-makhraj, bismillāhi walajnā, wa bismillāhi kharajnā, wa ʿalallāhi Rabbinā tawakkalnā.
﴿Leaving﴾ In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah.
﴿Entering﴾ O Allah, I ask You for the best entrance and the best exit. In the name of Allah we have entered, and in the name of Allah we have left, and upon Allah, our Lord, we place our trust. (Then greet one's family with salām.)
﴿Wearing a garment﴾ Alḥamdu lillāhil-ladhī kasānī hādhā wa razaqanīhi min ghayri ḥawlin minnī wa lā quwwah.
﴿Wearing a new garment﴾ Allāhumma lakal-ḥamd, anta kasawtanīh, as'aluka min khayrihi wa khayri mā ṣuniʿa lah, wa aʿūdhu bika min sharrihi wa sharri mā ṣuniʿa lah.
﴿Before undressing﴾ Bismillāh.
﴿Wearing a garment﴾ Praise is to Allah Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me, with no power or might from myself.
﴿Wearing a new garment﴾ O Allah, to You is the praise. You have clothed me with this. I ask You for its good and the good of that for which it was made, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of that for which it was made.
﴿Before undressing﴾ In the name of Allah. (Said as a screen between one and the jinn.)

Entering & Leaving the Toilet
Duʿāʾ · 066﴿Entering﴾ Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī & Muslim · ﴿Leaving﴾ Sunan Abī Dāwūd, al-Tirmidhī, Ibn Mājah (authentic).
Allah is Greatest, Allah is Greatest, Allah is Greatest. Glory to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we could never have accomplished it by ourselves, and indeed to our Lord we shall return. O Allah, we ask You on this journey of ours for righteousness and piety, and for deeds that please You. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and fold up its distance. O Allah, You are our Companion on the road and the One who looks after our family in our absence.
Lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamdu yuḥyī wa yumīt, wa huwa ḥayyun lā yamūt, bi-yadihil-khayr, wa huwa ʿalā kulli shay'in qadīr.
There is no god but Allah, alone, with no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise; He gives life and causes death, and He is Living and does not die. In His hand is all good, and He is over all things Omnipotent.
We return, repentant, worshipping, and praising our Lord. (Said along with takbīr upon returning from a journey.)

1) Bismillāhil-ladhī lā yaḍurru maʿas-mihi shay'un fil-arḍi wa lā fis-samā', wa huwas-samīʿul-ʿalīm. (three times, morning and evening)
2) Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika minal-kufri wal-faqr, Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika min ʿadhābil-qabr, lā ilāha illā ant.
3) Aʿūdhu bi-kalimātillāhit-tāmmāti min sharri mā khalaq.
4) Allāhumma innā najʿaluka fī nuḥūrihim, wa naʿūdhu bika min shurūrihim.
5) Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika min ʿilmin lā yanfaʿ, wa min qalbin lā yakhshaʿ, wa min nafsin lā tashbaʿ, wa min daʿwatin lā yustajābu lahā.
6) Ḥasbunallāhu wa niʿmal-wakīl.
7) Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika an ushrika bika wa anā aʿlam, wa astaghfiruka limā lā aʿlam.
8) Aʿūdhu billāhi minash-shayṭānir-rajīm.
9) Uʿīdhukumā bi-kalimātillāhit-tāmmati min kulli shayṭānin wa hāmmah, wa min kulli ʿaynin lāmmah.
10) Bismillāh (three times). Aʿūdhu bi-ʿizzatillāhi wa qudratihi min sharri mā ajidu wa uḥādhir (seven times).
1) In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in heaven can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
2) O Allah, I seek refuge in You from disbelief and poverty. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave. There is no god but You.
3) I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created. (Whoever says this three times in the evening, nothing will harm them that night.)
4) O Allah, we place You before them, and we seek refuge in You from their evil.
5) O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, a heart that is not humble, a soul that is never satisfied, and a supplication that is not answered.
6) Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.
7) O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowingly associating partners with You, and I seek Your forgiveness for what I do not know.
8) I seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the accursed. (Said when distracting whispers come during prayer or recitation.)
9) I seek protection for you both in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and every poisonous creature, and from every evil, harmful eye. (Ibrāhīm ﷺ used to say this over Ismāʿīl and Isḥāq.)
10) In the name of Allah (three times). I seek refuge in Allah's might and power from the evil of what I feel and am wary of (seven times). (Place your hand on the site of pain while reciting.)

Bismillāhir-Raḥmānir-Raḥīm. Al-ḥamdu lillāhi Rabbil-ʿālamīn. Ar-Raḥmānir-Raḥīm. Māliki yawmid-dīn. Iyyāka naʿbudu wa iyyāka nastaʿīn. Ihdinaṣ-ṣirāṭal-mustaqīm. Ṣirāṭal-ladhīna anʿamta ʿalayhim, ghayril-maghḍūbi ʿalayhim wa laḍ-ḍāllīn.
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy. All praise is due to Allah, Lord of all worlds. The Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy. Master of the Day of Judgment. You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help. Guide us to the straight path — the path of those You have blessed, not of those who have earned Your anger, nor of those who go astray. (The Prophet ﷺ approved a Companion reciting al-Fātiḥah as ruqyah, saying: "How did you know it was a ruqyah?")
Allāhu lā ilāha illā Huwal-Ḥayyul-Qayyūm. Lā ta'khudhuhu sinatun wa lā nawm. Lahu mā fis-samāwāti wa mā fil-arḍ. Man dhal-ladhī yashfaʿu ʿindahu illā bi-idhnih. Yaʿlamu mā bayna aydīhim wa mā khalfahum, wa lā yuḥīṭūna bi-shay'in min ʿilmihi illā bimā shā'. Wasiʿa kursiyyuhus-samāwāti wal-arḍ, wa lā ya'ūduhu ḥifẓuhumā, wa Huwal-ʿAliyyul-ʿAẓīm.
Allah — there is no god but He, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth. Who could intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they encompass nothing of His knowledge except what He wills. His Throne extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. He is the Most High, the Most Great. (Whoever recites it at night, a guardian from Allah stays with him and no devil approaches until morning.)

Āmanar-Rasūlu bimā unzila ilayhi min Rabbihi wal-mu'minūn. Kullun āmana billāhi wa malā'ikatihi wa kutubihi wa rusulih. Lā nufarriqu bayna aḥadin min rusulih. Wa qālū samiʿnā wa aṭaʿnā, ghufrānaka Rabbanā wa ilaykal-maṣīr. Lā yukallifullāhu nafsan illā wusʿahā. Lahā mā kasabat wa ʿalayhā mak-tasabat. Rabbanā lā tu'ākhidhnā in nasīnā aw akhṭa'nā. Rabbanā wa lā taḥmil ʿalaynā iṣran kamā ḥamaltahu ʿalal-ladhīna min qablinā. Rabbanā wa lā tuḥammilnā mā lā ṭāqata lanā bih. Waʿfu ʿannā waghfir lanā warḥamnā. Anta Mawlānā fanṣurnā ʿalal-qawmil-kāfirīn.
The Messenger believes in what has been revealed to him from his Lord, as do the believers. Each one believes in Allah, His angels, His Books, and His Messengers — "We make no distinction between any of His Messengers." And they say, "We hear and we obey. Grant us Your forgiveness, our Lord; to You is the final return." Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear. It gets what it earned, and it is accountable for what it earned. Our Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or make a mistake. Our Lord, do not lay on us a burden like the one You laid on those before us. Our Lord, do not burden us with what we have no strength to bear. Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our Protector, so help us against the disbelievers. (Whoever recites the last two verses of al-Baqarah at night, they will suffice him.)
Qul aʿūdhu bi-Rabbil-falaq. Min sharri mā khalaq. Wa min sharri ghāsiqin idhā waqab. Wa min sharrin-naffāthāti fil-ʿuqad. Wa min sharri ḥāsidin idhā ḥasad.
Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak — from the evil of what He has created; from the evil of the darkness when it settles; from the evil of the blowers on knots (sorcery); and from the evil of the envier when he envies.

Duʿāʾ · 122Qur'an 114 · Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 5017, Muslim 814
Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, the King of mankind, the God of mankind — from the evil of the retreating whisperer, who whispers in the breasts of mankind, from among the jinn and mankind.
Bismillāhi arqīk, min kulli shay'in yu'dhīk, min sharri kulli nafsin aw ʿaynin ḥāsid, Allāhu yashfīk, bismillāhi arqīk.
In the Name of Allah I perform ruqyah upon you, from everything that harms you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye — may Allah cure you; in the Name of Allah I perform ruqyah upon you. (Jibrīl recited this over the Prophet ﷺ.)
As'alullāhal-ʿAẓīma Rabbal-ʿArshil-ʿAẓīmi an yashfiyak. (Recited seven times over the sick person.)
I ask Allah, the Magnificent, Lord of the Magnificent Throne, to cure you. (Whoever recites it seven times over a sick person whose time has not come, Allah will cure him.)
Qul yā ayyuhal-kāfirūn. Lā aʿbudu mā taʿbudūn. Wa lā antum ʿābidūna mā aʿbud. Wa lā anā ʿābidun mā ʿabadtum. Wa lā antum ʿābidūna mā aʿbud. Lakum dīnukum wa liya dīn.
Say: O disbelievers! I do not worship what you worship, nor do you worship what I worship. Nor will I worship what you worship, nor will you worship what I worship. For you is your religion, and for me is mine. (The Prophet ﷺ taught its recitation at bedtime as a declaration of freedom from shirk.)
Uʿīdhukumā bi-kalimātillāhit-tāmmah, min kulli shayṭānin wa hāmmah, wa min kulli ʿaynin lāmmah.
I seek refuge for you both in the perfect Words of Allah from every devil and every venomous creature, and from every evil eye. (The Prophet ﷺ would seek refuge for al-Ḥasan and al-Ḥusayn with these words.)
The Prophet ﷺ, at bedtime, would cup his hands, blow into them while reciting Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ, al-Falaq, and an-Nās, then wipe over as much of his body as he could — beginning with the head and face — repeating this three times. (This is the Sunnah method of self-ruqyah.)
The Prophetic method: recite al-Ikhlāṣ, al-Falaq, and an-Nās into the cupped palms, then wipe the whole body — done three times before sleep and used as self-ruqyah for illness.
Fa-lammā alqaw qāla Mūsā mā ji'tum bihis-siḥr, innallāha sayubṭiluh, innallāha lā yuṣliḥu ʿamalal-mufsidīn. Wa yuḥiqqullāhul-ḥaqqa bi-kalimātihi wa law karihal-mujrimūn.
When they had cast, Moses said: 'What you have brought is sorcery. Indeed, Allah will make it worthless — Allah does not set right the work of corrupters. And Allah establishes the truth by His words, however much the criminals may hate it.' (From the verses classically recited against sorcery.)
Qāla bal alqū, fa-idhā ḥibāluhum wa ʿiṣiyyuhum yukhayyalu ilayhi min siḥrihim annahā tasʿā. Fa-awjasa fī nafsihi khīfatan Mūsā. Qulnā lā takhaf innaka antal-aʿlā. Wa alqi mā fī yamīnika talqaf mā ṣanaʿū, innamā ṣanaʿū kaydu sāḥir, wa lā yufliḥus-sāḥiru ḥaythu atā.
He said, 'Rather, you throw.' And suddenly their ropes and staffs seemed to him, from their magic, to be moving. So Moses sensed fear within himself. We said, 'Do not fear. Indeed, it is you who are superior. Throw what is in your right hand — it will swallow up what they have crafted. What they have crafted is only a magician's trick, and the magician will not succeed wherever he is.' (Classically recited against sorcery.)
Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of Might, above what they describe. And peace be upon the messengers. And all praise is due to Allah, Lord of all worlds.
He is Allah — there is no god but He, the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed; He is the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy. He is Allah — there is no god but He, the Sovereign, the Pure, the Perfection, the Bestower of Faith, the Overseer, the Almighty, the Compeller, the Supreme. Exalted is Allah above what they associate with Him. He is Allah — the Creator, the Originator, the Fashioner; to Him belong the most beautiful names. Whatever is in the heavens and the earth glorifies Him, and He is the Mighty, the Wise.

Illness, Death & the Grave

Duʿāʾ · 083Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim
For One Nearing Death
لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ
Lā ilāha illallāh.
There is no god but Allah. (The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Prompt your dying with lā ilāha illallāh.')
O Allah, forgive [the deceased], raise his rank among the rightly guided, take care of his descendants he has left behind, forgive us and him, O Lord of the worlds, and widen his grave and grant him light in it.
Allāhummaghfir lahu warḥamh, wa ʿāfihi waʿfu ʿanh, wa akrim nuzulah, wa wassiʿ mudkhalah, waghsilhu bil-mā'i wath-thalji wal-barad, wa naqqihi minal-khaṭāyā kamā naqqaytath-thawbal-abyaḍa minad-danas, wa abdilhu dāran khayran min dārih, wa ahlan khayran min ahlih, wa adkhilhul-jannah, wa aʿidh-hu min ʿadhābil-qabri wa ʿadhābin-nār.
O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, keep him safe and pardon him, honor his resting place and ease his entrance; wash him with water, snow and hail, and cleanse him of sin as a white garment is cleansed of dirt; give him an abode better than his home, a family better than his family; admit him to Paradise and protect him from the punishment of the grave and the Fire.

Duʿāʾ · 087Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī & Muslim — the Prophet ﷺ sent this message to his daughter Zaynab when her son was dying.
Assalāmu ʿalaykum ahlad-diyāri minal-mu'minīna wal-muslimīn, wa innā in shā'allāhu bikum lāḥiqūn, as'alullāha lanā wa lakumul-ʿāfiyah.
Peace be upon you, inhabitants of these abodes, believers and Muslims. We shall, if Allah wills, join you. I ask Allah for well-being for us and for you.

6) Wa nunazzilu minal-Qur'āni mā huwa shifā'un wa raḥmatun lil-mu'minīn, wa lā yazīduẓ-ẓālimīna illā khasārā.

5) No harm; [it is] a purification, if Allah wills. — Said to comfort the sick and remind them that illness expiates sins.
6) And We send down of the Qur'an that which is a healing and a mercy for the believers — but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss. — Recite Sūrah al-Fātiḥah as ruqyah; the Prophet ﷺ approved this practice as authentic ruqyah.

Weather
Supplications for wind, thunder, and rain — turning the sky's changes into remembrance of Allah.
Allāhumma innī as'aluka khayrahā wa khayra mā fīhā wa khayra mā ursilat bih, wa aʿūdhu bika min sharrihā wa sharri mā fīhā wa sharri mā ursilat bih.
O Allah, I ask You for its good, the good within it, and the good it was sent with, and I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil within it, and the evil it was sent with.
Alḥamdu lillāh (sneezer) — Yarḥamukallāh (one who hears it) — Yahdīkumullāhu wa yuṣliḥu bālakum (the sneezer's reply).
Sneezer says: 'Praise be to Allah.' Others reply: 'May Allah have mercy on you.' The sneezer then answers: 'May Allah guide you and set right your affairs.'

Duʿāʾ · 105Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī & Muslim
When Angry
أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
Aʿūdhu billāhi minash-shayṭānir-rajīm.
I seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the accursed. (The Prophet ﷺ also advised sitting down if standing, lying down if sitting, and performing wuḍū'.)
Praise is to Allah Who has kept me safe from that which He has afflicted you with, and has favored me over much of what He has created. (Said silently, not within the afflicted person's hearing.)
Subḥānakallāhumma wa bi-ḥamdik, ash-hadu an lā ilāha illā ant, astaghfiruka wa atūbu ilayk.
Glory is to You, O Allah, and praise. I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance. (Said upon rising from a gathering; it expiates whatever occurred within it.)

Duʿāʾ · 108Sunan al-Tirmidhī (ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ) — the Prophet ﷺ said this is the most complete form of praise and thanks.

Marriage & Comprehensive Duʿās
A blessing for those beginning a marriage, and two sweeping supplications that gather together every good.
Allāhumma innī as'aluka minal-khayri kullihi ʿājilihi wa ājilih, mā ʿalimtu minhu wa mā lam aʿlam, wa aʿūdhu bika minash-sharri kullihi ʿājilihi wa ājilih, mā ʿalimtu minhu wa mā lam aʿlam.
O Allah, I ask You for all good, its immediate and its delayed, what I know of it and what I do not know, and I seek refuge in You from all evil, its immediate and its delayed, what I know of it and what I do not know.
Allāhummaqsim lanā min khashyatika mā taḥūlu bihi baynanā wa bayna maʿṣiyatik, wa min ṭāʿatika mā tuballighunā bihi jannatak, wa minal-yaqīni mā tuhawwinu bihi ʿalaynā maṣā'ibad-dunyā.
O Allah, grant us such fear of You as will come between us and disobeying You, and such obedience to You as will bring us to Your Paradise, and such certainty as will make bearable for us the calamities of this world.

Duʿāʾ · 115Sunan al-Tirmidhī (ḥasan) — the Prophet ﷺ said this is the best supplication said by him and the prophets before him on the Day of ʿArafah.
Lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamdu, wa huwa ʿalā kulli shay'in qadīr.

Duʿāʾ · 138Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim — the Prophet ﷺ said: "The most beloved words to Allah are four: Subḥānallāh, al-ḥamdu lillāh, lā ilāha illallāh, and Allāhu akbar. It does not matter with which you begin."

Duʿāʾ · 140Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī & Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim — whoever says this 100 times a day earns the reward of freeing ten slaves, 100 good deeds are written for him, 100 sins are erased, and he is protected from Shayṭān for that day.
Allāhumma innī ʿabduka, wa-bnu ʿabdika, wa-bnu amatika, nāṣiyatī bi-yadika, māḍin fiyya ḥukmuka, ʿadlun fiyya qaḍā'uka, as'aluka bi-kulli ismin huwa laka, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fī kitābika, aw ʿallamtahu aḥadan min khalqika, awi-sta'tharta bihi fī ʿilmi l-ghaybi ʿindaka, an tajʿala l-Qur'āna rabīʿa qalbī, wa-nūra ṣadrī, wa-jalā'a ḥuznī, wa-dhahāba hammī.
O Allah, I am Your slave, son of Your slave, son of Your maidservant; my forelock is in Your Hand; Your decree regarding me is inevitably executed, and Your judgment concerning me is just. I ask You by every Name that is Yours — with which You have named Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to one of Your creation, or kept exclusive to Yourself in Your unseen knowledge — that You make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the remover of my sadness, and the dispeller of my anxiety.

Duʿāʾ · 152Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2726 — from Juwayriyah (RA): the Prophet ﷺ said these four phrases weigh more on the Scale than the countless tasbīḥ she had recited from morning until forenoon.
Subḥānallāhi wa bi-ḥamdihī — ʿAdada Khalqihī (The Comprehensive Tasbīḥ)
Subḥānallāhi wa bi-ḥamdihī, ʿadada khalqihī, wa riḍā nafsihī, wa zinata ʿarshihī, wa midāda kalimātih.
Glory be to Allah and all praise is due to Him — as many times as the number of His creation, as vast as His pleasure, as weighty as the throne, and as endless as the ink of His words.

Duʿāʾ · 153Qur'an 9:128–129 — these closing verses of Sūrah at-Tawbah are among the most powerful words of tawakkul and refuge; recited for protection and comfort in difficulty.
The Last Two Verses of Sūrah at-Tawbah — A Shield and Comfort
Laqad jā'akum rasūlum min anfusikum ʿazīzun ʿalayhi mā ʿanittum, ḥarīṣun ʿalaykum bil-mu'minīna ra'ūfun raḥīm. Fa-in tawallaw faqul ḥasbiyallāhu lā ilāha illā huwa, ʿalayhi tawakkaltu wa huwa rabbu l-ʿarshi l-ʿaẓīm.
There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves. Grievous to him is what you suffer; [he is] concerned over you, and to the believers he is kind and merciful. But if they turn away, say, 'Sufficient for me is Allah; there is no deity except Him. On Him I have relied, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne.'

Duʿāʾ · 154Qur'an 3:26–27 — a comprehensive declaration of Allah's absolute sovereignty, power, and provision; often recited when seeking authority, decision, honor, or relief from humiliation.
Qulillāhumma mālika al-mulki, tu'tī al-mulka man tashā'u wa tanzi'u al-mulka mimman tashā'u, wa tu'izzu man tashā'u wa tudhillu man tashā'u, biyadika al-khayru, innaka ʿalā kulli shay'in qadīr. Tūliju al-layla fī an-nahāri wa tūliju an-nahāra fī al-layli, wa tukhriju al-ḥayya mina al-mayyiti wa tukhriju al-mayyita mina al-ḥayyi, wa tarzuqu man tashā'u bighayri ḥisāb.
Say, 'O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is all good. Indeed, You are over all things competent. You cause the night to enter the day, and You cause the day to enter the night; and You bring the living out of the dead, and You bring the dead out of the living. And You give provision to whom You will without account.'

Duʿāʾ · 156The first kalimah — the foundation of faith and the most virtuous dhikr. Mentioned in the Qur'an (e.g., 37:35, 48:29) and in countless authentic aḥādīth as the word of tawḥīd by which Paradise is granted.
Kalimah Ṭayyibah — The Testimony of Faith
لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللهِ
Lā ilāha illallāhu, Muḥammadar-rasūlullāh.
There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.

A Note on Authenticity
Every duʿāʾ in this collection is drawn only from the Qur'an and authentic (Ṣaḥīḥ or Ḥasan) narrations of Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, Sunan Abī Dāwūd, Jāmiʿ al-Tirmidhī, Sunan al-Nasāʾī, Sunan Ibn Mājah, and other trusted sources. Weak (ḍaʿīf) and fabricated narrations are excluded. The complete work will contain approximately 250–300 supplications. This collection currently holds 127 duʿās and continues to grow toward that goal, organized by topic and occasion.
